Hallo Johannes,

Johannes replied: Hi,
I updated most of the links in the link section and added some new. Thanks for the hint!

I bought my XP30 when it was released (1999 I think)and have used it,gigged it constantly since then, sometimes 365 nights (often more) straight as a pro muso.It has never let me down (surprising for a Roland, counting past AND present experiences with Roland. It is the best little synth I have owned to be honest.Bought a Fantom X6 last year and due to keyboard (aftertouch) problems, still haven't been able to take it to work !! I would like to buy a second one this year. Congrats on your site.

Johannes replied: more than 365 nights?! Anyway, thanks and have fun!!

I have owned my XP30 for 8 years. The best synth I have ever owned. Used for stage use exclusively for my classic rock band Flashback.

Thank You so much for the SoundDiver, I think you're the only place on the internet that has this! I almost didn't find your site (thanks to a forum site that went down...) but Google thankfully cached the page and I found your site. It in my bookmarks now as I'm sure there'll be helpful resources for my JV-1010 and a community that still cares.

Thanks again so much, words can't describe how happy I am. It works on Windows 7 btw ;) SoundDiver is now going on a CD for safe keeping :)

Hi all,
I play guitar in a regular jam that sometimes has...too many guitars, so I sit down at the XP-30 and try to fake my way through it all. Learning my way around this board, like it a lot, might put the axe down for awhile...what I need, though, like RIGHT NOW, are more keyboard sounds...more organs, more B3s...can I just buy a card somewhere and pop it in? "Dirty B3" is nice, but getting boring...
Thanks!
MarkB

Johannes replied: Hi,

I had the same feeling about "true" Piano/Keys sounds and the best you can do is get the "Keyboards of the 60s/70s" Expansion Card. It has some really nice Rhodes, B3s, Voxes, Wurlys etc.
Now it is one of the most expansive Expansion cards but chek ebay and craigslist and you might find one for around 100-150 bucks or so!
Good luck!

We know NOTHING about this sort of equipment but, since our oldest child expressed interest in piano lessons, we decided we needed a keyboard for practice. Ironically, we stumbled upon a Roland XP-30 keyboard from a neighbor's garage sale. They sold it for $50, which seemed cheap to us. The problem is, we have no idea how to set it to a piano mode (simply) so we can listen to it as she plays. No sound is emmitting. This is obviously a more elaborate piece of musical equipment, than we intended to obtain! Can we simply set it to play and practice like a piano, without a computer or speakers?...or should we sell it on ebay? It is in great condition (from what we can tell). ?? Thanks for your help. -Claudio

Johannes replied: Hi,
well there is no "Piano Mode", but usually if you switch it on it will play a sound, but it has no built-in speakers!! So eighter connect speakers or headphones to the L Out Plug. Withouth either, there will be no sound!

A great resource, Johannes! Very much appreciated. I love the XP30, and bought one new in 2000. Now I finally want to get more serious about tapping its potential.

Hi Johannes,

Great site - I have just bought an XP-30, and I love the feel and sounds. I am having problems with MIDI (I dont know Rolands very well as I have always been a KORG person in the past)

I use Cakewalk, and I can not figure out how to assign different patches to different MIDI channels on the keyboard? I have a piano on track 1, a bass on track 2 and some strings on track 3 and drums on track 10. How do I set up the XP-30 to assign these sounds to these tracks for playback?

I dont have the manual for the keyboard to help me, can you please (or anyone) give me a step by step guide to setting this up.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Dean

Johannes replied: Hi,

MIDI is quite easy with the XP-30.
To use the XP-30 as multitimbral instrument, you have to select the Performance Mode by pressing the Button left to the Display.
Then you have to select the patches for each of the 16 MIDI channels.
Also, when creating your patches/performances, you can select different MIDI channels for each instrumene (pp. 86 in the Manual).

But in any case you should read the Manual as to get the best result you need to understand how it works under the hood. You can find it in the Downloads Section on this page!
Cheers
J
