Nord Piano Weighted-keys

Hello,
Has anyone tried the Nord Piano? Is the action different than the Stage? Also, in general, how do Nord's weighted keys compare to other keyboards? I have a Yamaha S90ES but want to buy the Nord Piano. I only use Acoustic Piano and Rhodes sounds, so the Nord Piano seems like a better choice than the Stage? Any comments on the weighted keys on these keyboards? Thanks

Hi, does anybody know if there´s a way to edit the different parameters of a program related to the potentiometers, eg. drive, reverb, eq, or attack, resonance, timbre control, etc, of the synth section ?

Hi,

indeed the volume of the Stage (and AFAIK all or at least most Nord Synths for that matter) is relatively low. So indeed using the Headphone Output helps. I use either of them depending on the PA/Speaker I am using, but if you are using a Mixer anyhow or a Speaker with some flexible gain control, I find it to be no problem.
I got a Stereo 6.3mm to 2x Mono Jack cable for a situation where I want Stereo using the Headphone Output and it works just fine.

Hello there.

I have the same problem. The main output is quite too low. It can be very anoying and a problem some times. I haven't tried the headphone output myself(exept for headphones), but people seem to like that solution.

I really wish the main output could just be louder.

Understood! I love everything about the Stage EX. The sound, the action, etc. Having lived with it and used it in the studio a few times now...just sounds and feels great. Just want more memory and the ability to load more sounds into it :)

I also chose the lady D for my Grand. I think it is probably the best, after that I´d choose the Steinway D close micd

Then I decided to skip upright and EGrand. I just do not need them. But I tried the m all out. Bösendorfer is definitely the best, almost sounding like a Grand. But the Svenka was my favorite.

For EP I am torn between EP1 and EP6. I liked the EP5 as well, but I think that I am settling with EP6.

I also stuck with the Clavs and since I got a tad of space left, I decided to put the luted italian harpsichord, just because :P

Hey everyone!!

After "rediscovering" the forum, I decided to give an update on my setup. In this last year, more like 6 months, I have added:

DSI Mopho (desktop version)
Korg MS2000B (got it brand new for 200 USD)
Korg Kaossilator Pro
Korg Kaossilator
Korg DS-10 (I think I had that from way back)
E-MU 1212m sound card.

I do mainly studio work for my leisure. Most of the stuff I record comes from my Nord Stage 88 revB, with some synth stuff from the mopho and arps and vocoded stuff from the MS2000. I got the Kaossilators just for fun, I have actually made a song using only the KOPRO (you can see it here: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLaRYU2DLEQ" ), very fun to use. During my sessions (I am actually just starting to record an album with a friend) I only use effects from the EMU.

We are going to play live sometime in the future, but I believe my setup will be very simple, just m...

Sorry, but playing custom samples on the Nord Stage is impossible as of now.

BUT! The Nord Electro CAN. You should consider it. It has a superb organ engine (same as the C2, the NS has theC1), it also has the ability to load custom samples, and the very good Nord Stage pianos, EPs, Clavs, etc.

But keep in mind that the NE3 does not have: multitimbrality nor synth engine. But you do not need the synth engine having samples. Nord does provide free synth samples for their NE3 and NW users.

If you need to have a synth, a killer combo would be pairing the NE3 with a mopho keyboard and later expand it with a Tetra. I think it could be cheaper.... but you do not have the convinient "all you need" in just one place...

Anyways, Hope I helped you decide on what to get :D

Hi,

I'm considering purchasing a Nord Stage 88 and wondered if it was possible to upload my own samples,a nd if so in what format?

I use Logic 9 and like a lot of the software instruments. I was hoping it might be possible to upload the standard samples, eg the piano sounds, as well as custom synth pads.

Having a mic-phantom powered input would be genius!! Even better would be a stereo in phantom power (with a phantom power switch of course). With the ability to route it through some of the reverbs, it could prove a powerful addition to the weakly implemented external section, which can only send a very limited amount of controls. Although having the ability to simply split it throughout the keyboard is in most cases more than enough. That, plus the C2 engine and the sample managing capabilities would make a killer NS2.

I hope that someday us NS classic users will get the string resonance ability and I hope that someday the organ engine can be upgraded to the C2.

It is a very small amount, but it is a VEEEERY FAST, I mean, reaaaaly good quality FlashMemory. Usually the normal USB 2.0 speeds would not suffice this, theoretically speaking. Not to mention it probably cannot handle a v5 piano.

The kind of flash memory Clavia chose is top notch, and it is not your average big usb memory, its more than that. And its also unlike any computer´s RAM. I believe their architecture is similar to that of the common RAM, but it is non-volataile. I mean, look at the PC3K. Also has a small amount of sample memory. but it provides for fast, non-volatile action. Remember that those old samplers holded only 1 diskette at a time and that was enough for most. the most advanced diskette holded about 200MB, and that was around the year 2000.

And yes, I would have liked that my Nord Stage Classic had the NE3´s capacity of playing samples, but well... it is quite good as it is!! Yesterday I was composing some music and jamming with my friends, and they were all ...

Hello everybody!
there is something that I don't understand.
Why make two keyboards that almost do the same thing?
why not make only one board with all the features?
I'm talking about the Nord Stage and the Nord Electro.
Making only one board with split points, C1 engine, sample, maybe 1gb memory, and the layout for the organ-piano-synth like the NS, it's all we need for the next Nord Stage, and stop making the Electro.
I think this would sell more.

NS 88 Classic owner.

OS wishlist:
~ I'd like the "drawbars" to be a little less sensitive- hard to adjust them precisely, they jump so quickly to their new values.
~ +1 on being able to load other types of samples!

Hardware / next Stage:
I love this board and play it alot and applaud most design decisions made (quality + simplicity). But does anyone know why they didn't include half damper capability? (It requires a stereo TRS plug and Stage only accepts a standard mono plug). Even low end boards these days have that, and it makes it hard to do quiet, exposed solo piano without that capability. And it's useful and wonderful used on other sounds as well. I'm imagining they didn't have it figured out when they came out with the Stage.

I also would love to have a mic input with top panel volume and fx controls!!!

You can't make a split between two different programs. The split and layer happens within a program

There is however a capability for copying a panel in one program to another:
"To copy the settings from another Panel to the active Program/Panel, press and hold one of the
Panel buttons and turn the Value dial. The display will indicate which of the Panels in the entire
Program memory of the Stage that will be copied to the current Program/Panel."

Yeah, not being able to load in new sounds (other than their selected piano/rhodes/clav sounds) into the 256 MB is disappointing; I imagine they came up with that capability after they came out with the Stage. That capability (along with more Flash RAM) would make this keyboard unbeatable.

I've got the Stage classic with only 128MB, but personally I'm good. I'm having so much fun with what it does have that I'm not worried about what it doesn't have. I SO LOVE the sounds and the sound quality on this board, and am finding the synth section to be good for making up what I may need in the way of other sounds.

I also own the Korg M3 and the Motif XS, and find the Stage refreshing after dealing with so much technology. I was always in the consumerist feature quest with those boards, only to discover I was spending too much time on learning the technology and not enough on playing. When you look at the Stage and what it does do, there's nothing I know of that's equivalent for an a...

I have to agree. I don't understand why only 256 RAM. And even worst is that they are missing a great opportunity to make money after the initial sale. I would have paid up to 250.00$ for an other 256 megs. I guess they are thinking long term. If you have all the memory you need, why would you buy their next model....

Stranger to me is why on earth is it impossible to load samples (strings etc from the sample library) into the Stage EX? The Nord Electro 3 does it!! I didn't know this at first so I purchased a stage EX but soon took it back to the store for a "downgrade" to a Nord electro. Now THAT is not good for business!!

Well...been playing all day with the new Stage 88..even went thru the whole manual :))

but, as I stare at my 3-pack of 4 GIG USB drives that I just picked up from Costco for $40...I can't help but wonder why a $3000 keyboard only has 256 megs of memory....

any thoughts??

HI all! New Stage EX88 owner here. Glad I found this site!!!
It seems to me that the main output of the Stage is quite low (for example, compared to my rack mount Motif module). Running directly into two channels of an Apogee Ensemble for use within Logic 9.-
The salesperson at the store (who also owns a StageEX 88) said that many people use the headphone out instead when going into a DAW system...

I'd love your opinions! This unit will live in my studio 90% of the time...Don't really play on using the Outputs 3/4 at all...I do a studio gig elsewhere from time to time.

Hi i'm a newbie... and i'm about to buy a Nord Stage Compact

However, I noticed at the shop the organ patches on the Electro3 sounds superior to those on the Stage, the percussion clicks were well defined and clear, and the overall sound was very warm and broad. I tried to replicate the exact settings on the Stage but it didn't sound as good, most noticeably with the percussion clicks. The sales attendant assured me the organs and keyboards on the Stage were the same as the Electro3 and it's just a matter of finding the right settings.

Does anybody know if there is a difference between the Electro3 and Stage in regards to this ?

Church organ sound for Nord Stage?

Hello
Does anybody knows if it's possible to make a "church organ" sound in the nord stage?
I'm talking about that organ sound for weddings.
I think the Nord Electro 3 has a sample of that organ.
Is there a way to make one with the NS?
maybe mixing a synth church organ with the B3 organ, some like that...?

my monitor mix comes in on 2 xlrs on the patch, and mixes with a seperate keyboard bus so i can control my own ear mix. patch has 8 xlr outputs for running clicks, tracks etc and seperating keys outputs. one power lead into the rack distro, one big loom to the keybaords, I am up and running in 2 minutes - so much better than building a studio on stage like i used to do!

hi Markus.
i assume you've changed the eq settings within a program?
a program basically stores everything except from the system functions. that means that both panels are stored together with the effects sections (effects, ampsim/eq, compressor and reverb) and the extern sections.

so yes, your eq should be stored within the program.

Backup Nord Stage

Hello,

I play the Nord Stage Classic 88 but i want to buy the Nord Stage EX. Now I will do a backup so that i have my sounds also on the EX. Are there only the Sounds/Presets safed or also the EQ Settings? I ask, because i changed the EQ on my main Piano Sound and want it the same way in the Nord EX.....
