Hey everyone!!

After "rediscovering" the forum, I decided to give an update on my setup. In this last year, more like 6 months, I have added:

DSI Mopho (desktop version)
Korg MS2000B (got it brand new for 200 USD)
Korg Kaossilator Pro
Korg Kaossilator
Korg DS-10 (I think I had that from way back)
E-MU 1212m sound card.

I do mainly studio work for my leisure. Most of the stuff I record comes from my Nord Stage 88 revB, with some synth stuff from the mopho and arps and vocoded stuff from the MS2000. I got the Kaossilators just for fun, I have actually made a song using only the KOPRO (you can see it here: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLaRYU2DLEQ" ), very fun to use. During my sessions (I am actually just starting to record an album with a friend) I only use effects from the EMU.

my monitor mix comes in on 2 xlrs on the patch, and mixes with a seperate keyboard bus so i can control my own ear mix. patch has 8 xlr outputs for running clicks, tracks etc and seperating keys outputs. one power lead into the rack distro, one big loom to the keybaords, I am up and running in 2 minutes - so much better than building a studio on stage like i used to do!

I'm using the Motionsound KP-500sn. Stereo, 2 x 12", 500 watts, expander circuit, 2 channels with 3 band eq and expander circuit, 50 pounds, good carry handles on side and top.

So far so good- haven't used it in really noisy settings yet. It's not like speaker on a stick stereo, it's a one-point-source stereo that sits right behind you (typically) about 3-6 feet. So essentially it's a personal monitor that can potentially (depending on the size of room and how loud everyone is) be your only source of amplification.

I like it a lot. It doesn't feel TOO heavy, and with casters it's only the stairs where i do have to carry it. Piano sounds good (need to turn off the expander knob), plenty of bass, and it's nice having the 3 band eq. The expander circuit works only on stereo signals, and effectively enhances whatever chorus, reverb and delay you've got going- snds good. Contact Pablo, north american warranty repair rep for Nord, he has a number of chassis's (the lowest portion of the casing) for a few Nord models that has the music stand brackets in place already or ready to install. that's the route i'm going, as it's going in for a repair anyway, so that lower chassis piece will be swapped out at that time, giving me the music stand holder

Nord 2x Rack with ableton?

hi, just ordered a nord lead 2x rack mount and wondering how would i be able to use an external midi keyboard to run through the nord whilst designing the sound on the nord's interface..could all this be sequenced on ableton live or something similar on a macbook pro? thanks

Nord Stage (or Wave) controlled via MicroKorg Arpeggiator

Has anyone ever tried controlling the Nord Stage (or Nord Wave) via MIDI using an arpeggiator? I recently bought a Nord Wave, and an arpeggiator is now the only thing I'm really missing. So I'm thinking about buying a MicroKorg, since they're quite cheap. But it would be nice to expand it's sonic possibilities, using the arpeggiator on the Stage/Wave via MIDI. Has anyone tried doing this?

I'll try, thanks. Think I messed up the MIDI-settings a bit, because the stage was playing the wave even when the extern section was off, initially. Think I may have turned off something.

Why I want to use the wave for some parts? Because some instruments are not meant to be played on a weighted keyboard.

Congrats to the Wave.
Actually listenign to the new samples available, I really thought of getting one of these as well, the Chamberlin SOunds are fantastic, dunno if I would USE them much but they just sound incredibly nice IMHO.
The Wave is nice, but being mainly a Piano player, I found the keyboard wa to "Synthicky".
Plus, given the OP, while being a sampler, it is memorywise not one of the GB library samplers, in this case maybe the Korg would be easier to go along the Stage.
Personally I thought of getting a MPC-500 or -1000 for sampling as they also give you a good sequencer, but haven't decided yet. But the Wave has some fantastic sounds.....GAS

I'll reply (I don't have my stage here, but I think I remember it correctly:

First press the "KB zones 2" button. This makes the keyboard split in two for the program you have selected.

Then adjust the split point by pressing kb zones 2 while holding down the shift button. Watch the green LEDs.

Then you select what you want to be in lower and upper parts of the keyboard. Do this by holding shift while pressing the zone select button. For instance, if you want the synth section to play in the upper part of the keyboard, hold shift while pressing the zone select button in the synth section until only the up/hi LEDs are lit.

Roland Sonic Cell and Nord Stage

Hello!

I've recently purchased a Nord Stage, and love it. I'm an accomplished pianist, but have had very little experience with MIDI. I've had several workstations where I create performances with multiple layers/zones/etc, but it's been slow going trying to learn about MIDI channels and CC#'s and such from the sound module to the controller keyboard.

Does anyone know a good source for a beginner to learn about this info?

By the way, the Roland Sonic Cell is a fantastic compliment to the Stage! Tons of quality sounds, computer editor, and SRX expandable.

Hi Johannes,
I'm currently using a Roland EV-5 with my Stage. I haven't had any of the problems you describe, but the travel is to light for my clumpy big feet.

I've added a piece of foam to try to emulate the 20% push that Herman mentioned on the Yamaha FC7 pedal ealier in this thread, but I'm thinking of getting a different pedal with a heavier travel.

It's no problem riding the bike with the Clavia (73 key) gigbag.
But don't expect it to be comfortable at longer distances! ;o)

I prefer using the shoulder strap when walking, because the lower part of the bag touches the back of my thighs. Besides, I always start sweating on my back with the heavy bag on it.

I think the bag is protective enough if you handle it yourself. I use it all the time to carry it to rehearsals and gigs and my keyboard still hasn't got a scratch or dent. There is a solid board in the top and bottom parts and the padding is about 2cm thick I guess. I would NOT let other people handle the keyboard in ANY gigbag. I'd use a case for that.

The extra compartment could be bigger though. I can't fit both of my Yamaha pedals (fc4+fc7) into it.

The Oasys is my only sampler/rompler, plus it has all those sweet synth engines in it like the Mod-7, STR-1, AL-1, MS-20EX, etc...
Some of its E-pianos are great but it just dosen't have the immediacy of the Stage, plus I've got a soft spot for Nord. ;)

The Organ model in the Stage is maybe just a tiny bit better than the Oasys but the amp sim and leslie sim are better in the Oasys.

Sometimes if I just want to compose, the Nord Stage is the only keyboard that gets turned on. :)
