Sorry, but playing custom samples on the Nord Stage is impossible as of now.

BUT! The Nord Electro CAN. You should consider it. It has a superb organ engine (same as the C2, the NS has theC1), it also has the ability to load custom samples, and the very good Nord Stage pianos, EPs, Clavs, etc.

But keep in mind that the NE3 does not have: multitimbrality nor synth engine. But you do not need the synth engine having samples. Nord does provide free synth samples for their NE3 and NW users.

If you need to have a synth, a killer combo would be pairing the NE3 with a mopho keyboard and later expand it with a Tetra. I think it could be cheaper.... but you do not have the convinient "all you need" in just one place...

There's just a little reverb added, no other effects, but you might want some eq depending on you speakers.

Hi, I´m a recent owner of a Nord Stage Classic Compact, and every day I find new amazing sounds in this red beauty !
The synth section, wich was underrated in many reviews, is really good, very good. There´s no need to talk about the other sections.

Hi folks! I'm new to this forum and have recently downloaded all the sounds you guys have created and posted here.
So now I'm going to share what I have done so far.

FM synthesis is a very exciting thing.
Since I once had a DX7 in the eighties I do remember how the typical FM-epiano sound was constructed.
As Johannes showed us it consists of three modulator-carrier pairs.

One pair creates the body of the sound which is the result of a modulator-carrier frequency-ratio of 1:1.
The modulator's envelope generator sets the time variant modulation intensity which leads to a frequency spectrum that can't be created by subtractive synthesis, no matter how complex the basic waveform may be.
This part of the sound can in deed be reproduced by the Nord Stage and it sounds more or less exactly like the DX7. It's just the very sophisticated key follow parameters that the Stage is missing.
The modulation intensity is controlled by the Timbre parameter.

Hi,
Just fixed your post. Sorry for the problem, but it seems this is a browser related problem. I would reckon you use Chrome?? Because in some non-up to date versions this bug of the forum software I am using is known but it has been fixed in recent releases. Hope it will work everywhere fine in the future versions. The programming is fine, jsut some browser incompatibilities. Let me know f it works for you e.g. in an updated version or using a different browser.

Yeah okay. Then it probably was a cp-30 with phaser, but I don't know much about that sound.

Unfortunately we don't have the cp-30 sound on the stage, so I would probably use the organ with phaser or perhabs try wurly.

The sound is closer to hammond than the cp-80 imho.

What do you think?

Hmm, I put some release there for sure. And on my NS Compact EX it has some. But even with zero release, it should still sound as long as you press the key no? Or are you talking about the filter EG? In any case, I agree that there might be slight differences between different versions or even revisions or OS versions that make a interchange of patches difficult but will have to check on that.

I know, I know - this site's for the Nord Stage! But seeing as there is no Nord Wave forum (as far as I know), I just thought I would post it here.

I'm planning on making some sampled instruments for the Nord Wave/Electro 3 - ranging from real instruments to esoteric synth sounds - and I'm going to be publishing them on my blog. The first instument out is the glockenspiel.

Hi,

as I said FM is the way to go here but I learnt that the harmonica patch on the DX-7 for instance used six ops, so its gonna be difficult.
Using Analog Synth, one would need two PW oscs detuned aroung a sixth from each other, also difficult on the NS.
So I tried to combine the two approaches and here is what I got, not too convincing though but hard to do better at least for me...should definitively learn more about FM...

80s Sawtooth / Van Halen Jump Patch

I created this patch for Van Halen's "Jump" but it can be used with a variety of 80s songs that have that big sawtooth mix sound. I threw in some light organ in the upper key split and some light acoustic piano in the lower key split to fatten up the sound a bit. I also have the modulation wheel set so that it will fade the volume to zero at full deflection (for an easy way of fading out or trailing off). Sorry no .mp3 sample on this, I'm not quite set up for that yet.

I'm sure that it's possible to make some brass sounds using the synth, but you're better off getting some other keyboard or module. The stage is not a workstation.

I got the Nord Wave. It is a perfect addition to the Nord Stage.

Yeah Hush is a great song. Deep Purple rocks for (cl)tonewheeler.
I found a quite OK Jon Lord patch based on a split setting (different volumes mainly), and using the AmpSim (not Leslie) cranked up quite a bit and a similar drawbar setting as the one suggested.
It works fine for Highway Star but I am no 100% satisfied, but will put my final result also here, but would be interesting to see different approaches to rock Jon's solo parts!

EDIT: Just finished my patch to use for Deep Purple Covers, and I found 888000008 to harh at the higher end and hence used 888000003. Plus overdrive from the Jazz Chorus simulation, the Leslie w/o any overdrive (Jon uses it in Hush I think while it is absent in many other songs). See if you like it or let me know if you can nail it even more!! (And sorry for the bad playing, was a bit in arush)

alwas on the quest for interesting new sounds to get some new ideas, just browsed the website of Philipp Koltsov(http://www.koltsov.biz/patches.html
who has a RAR file containing around fifty patches for the Nord Stage ("http://www.koltsov.biz/nordstagepatches.rar"). While many are the ones from the Yahoo group or others I already knew, there were some interesting ones, in particular two synth based (possibly also from somewhere else but don't remember the original source).
One String patch that sounds rather Mellotronish (IIRC I've heard it somewhere before but notsure).:

Johannes, thanks for posting your thoughts and learned abilities surrounding the synth portion of the NS.

I have a NS88 Rev B (owned just under a year) and as I become more fluent with the machine and diving more into the synth section, I am uncertain its as flexible as I hoped. I knew from day 1 that it was more than I knew, but was sure that it was just a learning curve. Prior the NS, I have only played the motif's, roland rx8, and an old korg trinity and a wee bit of the triton. While I played many over the past 15 years, this is the first I owned because I never found a board I REALLY liked until the NS.

In the past month I have began research and training into creating synth patches but am still just trying to grasp the signal flow and use of controllers/oscilators etc. I am reading the articles on Sound on Sound, but wondered if you (Johannes) would be willing to snapshot from your NS what you've listed out in your samples above? I have attempted to recreate and even from my...

Well I cant say the exact programme list. But I do remember that the earlier versions prior to 3.x had about half as many programs and about 15 programs in each synth category.

Working on a Marimba

for a week now I am trying to get a kind of nice Marimba/Celeste sound. While two triangle waves would be nice, I finally came up with a patch based on one triangle and two FM oscillators w/o Feedback following a discussion in the yahoo group, but still not 100% satisfied, maybe someone got suggestions for improvement? Looking for "Also Sprach Zarathustra" sound

Hi,

I am currently trying to get a good patch for a funky version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (e.g. in Space Odyssey 2001), e.g. the version ofDeodato:

It should be something in between, very funky. Given that we only have one keyboarder (=me), I need to do the main theme (some Brass but would probably go for some dirty Hammond with some Lead with LFO on the cutoff), but I did not quite succed to get a sound which fits both nice soloing AND the >Theme, the guitarist keeps complaining about the sound being too litle percussive and the melody not clear enough.

So basically would like a good Rock Organ, so which drawbars might be good'' And to make it percussive, using the Percussive Switch,...
