Yes, it will fit - I bought one yesterday and I've got the Stage EX 88 too. There are two plastic bits on the back of the Stage with holes in to hold the music stand. I think they've been there since the Stage Revision B, so it is only the original Rev A from several years ago now that doesn't have them.

The one I bought has to go back to the shop. The rubber at the bottom of the bit the music sits in was coming away, but more importantly they'd put the supports on backwards. The stand would have to be mounted with the music facing away from me. Considering how much these stands cost I was rather unimpressed.

Congrats to the Wave.
Actually listenign to the new samples available, I really thought of getting one of these as well, the Chamberlin SOunds are fantastic, dunno if I would USE them much but they just sound incredibly nice IMHO.
The Wave is nice, but being mainly a Piano player, I found the keyboard wa to "Synthicky".
Plus, given the OP, while being a sampler, it is memorywise not one of the GB library samplers, in this case maybe the Korg would be easier to go along the Stage.
Personally I thought of getting a MPC-500 or -1000 for sampling as they also give you a good sequencer, but haven't decided yet. But the Wave has some fantastic sounds.....GAS

Ok I've gigged with this now quite a bit, in different situations (small clubs), Out doors and so here's what I think. Volume wise it's not really loud, but then it's only 50watts per channel. That being said, I just use 2 xlr outs and send it to the board so I can hear a bit back through the FOH amp and monitors. Part of the reason I find it lacking is that my hearing likes the higher frequencies better than the lows, and so If I do use a lot of lows, it booms a bit for me, but not near as bad as the Rolands, but I still take out the low and mids, and thus I think that kills some of the power. All that said, I've never had a situation where I *couldn't* hear myself, only some where it was a bit hard. Hell, one time, we were doing a gig in a big room, with the 5 piece band, and I forgot to make sure...

Hi Juergen,

dunno I get your question right, but you know that the Nord Stage is not a Rompler in the classical sense nor able to playback Samples such as the Nord Wave or NE3.
I agree that it s unfortunate that no samples can be loaded in the NS (from the Nord Sample Librar or something else, the new Chamberlin Samples are really making me want to be able to do so even more!!!) But I guess that will never happen.

Moreover, the Synth Engine is partly a (ssmall) FM synthesizer (3ops) so basically you can /have to create your own FM patches that will at least technically be similar to some stuff that the DX7 did. Also there are some FM waveforms in the Synth section, but they als require that you use Filter, EGs etc. to get the sound you want. I created some FM patches but not really happy with them and did not find any nice patches out there to download, nor on this website,

so if anyone got some nice DX7 emulation patches, please share!!!!

Ok, then try contacting Clavia, maybe they've had other people reporting the same problem.
Is it working with the button but not with the pedal? It's quite weird. If it's a hardware problem, you'll have to send it to get it fixed. But if it's software maybe they can give you a better solution.
I'm just guessing, but I'd try reinstalling the latest OS downloaded from the website, not the one that came in a CD with the keyboard (maybe you tried this already). The CD may not be 100% ok and thus could give little bugs. Even though in this case, it'd be probable you got an error in the OS upgrade.

I agree I have found this frustrating also, but what I have learned is that if the range (within a split) of the instrument is limited, you can shift it more than 1 octave. For example: I play my Stage 88 most of the time with the Lo & Hi Split on almost exactly splitting the keyboard into 3 parts.

Piano - across all 3 zones (can only shift -1 octave)
Synth - across lower 2 zones (can shift -1, +4 octaves)
Organ - middle zone...

Just while after some time browsing some sites, I came across some really nice patches I appreciated so just wanted to share them here:

Will try them out on some new ideas, not sure yet what for, so no sound examples so far, unles you got some ;-9

They are all created by Pete Nalda (great NS player if you check out his vids on youtube!), So all credits go to him!! (Hope he doesn't mind putting them here!)

MiniMoog Sound (Abba - Gimme & Billy Joel - The Entertainer)

The other day I was practicing Billy Joel's "Entertainer" and while the sound of the Mini Moog (or nowaday, Voyager) is really stunning, I tried to come up -as long as I can't afford one ;-) - with a patch that will do the job.

So here is my first try on the Mood used for the Intro and somewhere during the song.

Moreover, the sound is kind of similar to the one used by Abba at Gimme Gimme Gimme... so tried that one too.

I did not found any reference on the web of how those guys used their synth, what wave forms etc. And did not bother to do a proper harmonic Fourier analysis, so here it is:

opening the nord electro 73

some keys on my electro 2 are not working or sometimes work. i think it has to do with the contact board. i tried opening it (unscrewed everything from the side and back and bottom but the casing seems to be held in place by something further and it doesn't come off. any suggestions?

Nord Stage EX 88 key Case

Hi,
I just bought a Nord Stage EX 88 and I'm looking to get a case. I know that I don't want something as heavy duty as an SKB (I had one of those for years but the weight got to be too much) but I don't want something that is too light and flimsy. Also, I'd like something cheaper than the cases Nord offers as they are pretty pricey. A snug and safe fit is a must too (obviously). Thanks in advance for your help!

The new Piano Sounds

Hi,

haven't tried the Romantic Upright so far, but the announcement at Nord ("http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?tm=Home&chm=Namm") of
*2 new Rhodes
*a new Steinway model D sample setand
* more Uprights

are indeed thrilling, let's see what "first quarter of 2010" means. Personally, I prefer the Grands over the Uprights so waiting for that one.

EDIT: Tried the Schimmel out now and indeed it is really nice, more warmth than the Blue thingy..
But I have a serious concern with all the Uprights I've tried out so far including this one: I find them a bit too "Honky-Tonky" as if I were using the Detune setup with two sounds. This gets worse if I turn on the MONO Mode (I play Mono only). So maybe it is a Mono or Amplification problem?? Will see, but other than that I really like the Schimmel, if it were not so honky (my Upright (real one) i...

Ableton Live 8.1.1

I'm having some crash problems with live 8.1.1; in addition to using the Nord EX '88 for its own great sounds, I also use it as my MIDI controller. I'm giving the 8.1.2b1 a try so I can figure out what is up.. It was suggested that running the current beta might help find the trouble. I wonder if any of you are having similar issues?
I also run Logic Pro 8 which works just fine. Thanks, Brad

I'll reply (I don't have my stage here, but I think I remember it correctly:

First press the "KB zones 2" button. This makes the keyboard split in two for the program you have selected.

Then adjust the split point by pressing kb zones 2 while holding down the shift button. Watch the green LEDs.

Then you select what you want to be in lower and upper parts of the keyboard. Do this by holding shift while pressing the zone select button. For instance, if you want the synth section to play in the upper part of the keyboard, hold shift while pressing the zone select button in the synth section until only the up/hi LEDs are lit.

Roland Sonic Cell and Nord Stage

Hello!

I've recently purchased a Nord Stage, and love it. I'm an accomplished pianist, but have had very little experience with MIDI. I've had several workstations where I create performances with multiple layers/zones/etc, but it's been slow going trying to learn about MIDI channels and CC#'s and such from the sound module to the controller keyboard.

Does anyone know a good source for a beginner to learn about this info?

By the way, the Roland Sonic Cell is a fantastic compliment to the Stage! Tons of quality sounds, computer editor, and SRX expandable.

Hi,

well there is A Electro Yahoo group I believe amongst others.
But the caseing should be similar in any case. I just opened my Stage 73 some time ago cause some pieces of paper slipped into it. It is pretty easy to open, just unscrew the wooden side pads, then all screws on the back and finally one (a long one, rather in the center) screw of the back (the rest can stay there). Then just open the cover and try not to destroy the cables but there is quite enough room to maneouvre).
Seems prette clean and well arranged inside another sign of a good job of Clavia!

Rattling is really annoying so unless you find the cause it might be a service issue??!

repeating notes with nord stage

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to repeat the same note, just by clicking it 1 time, or holding it down? The volume has to stay the same, so a delay won't work, and with the tremelo i'm not able to put it on a tempo of 130 bpm.

Hi,

Ive never had this problem but read about something similar a lot. YOu're shure to have tried the most recent version of the driver and manager software from the website, also try another cable to check if it is really a hardware issue (which honestly I doubt), finally, try another PC/Laptop. SHould solve it I guess

The piano's on the stage are great! I own a yamaha s90-es and a nord stage, and I think there are absolute great piano's on the Nord.

And ofcourse there is a sustain function on the Nord, even for the organs. Read the manual!

And another great thing of the Nord is that you have increadible possibilities within a program, so switching sounds is seamlessly in that setup!
Most keyboard I know can't switch seamlessly between sounds because of effect settings. The Roland XP synths could, but the sound always changed dramaticly because of the other effect settings.

The Nord has within a program 2 organ sounds, 2 piano sounds, s synth sounds, and two extern synth sounds. You can change between these sounds seamlessly. This is a true performance keyboard, and I have not come across a song a could not make a program for.

1- a weird sound when you soft release a note it plays a soft attack to stop the sound
2 - when the sustain release , nord cut down the sound without a normal release ,it doesn't happen in acoustic piano
